Letter to the World
2014 Kaohsiung Exhibition Center
Kaohsiung, Taiwan
Letter to The World takes on the theme of an intertidal zone to symbolize the characteristics of an exhibition center. Situated at the heart of the west coast, the World Trade Exhibition Center functions akin to an intertidal zone, with each exhibition/performance comparable to the ebb and flow of the tides that have not only brought products and technologies from around the world into Taiwan but also taken Taiwan’s merchandise and culture to the rest of the world. The imagery of oceanic waves is achieved with mosaic bands and cast copper slabs that radiate outward from the cast copper compass situated at the entrance of the exhibition hall. With translucent sails atop, the poles stand amidst of the ocean waves and represent vessels traveling with the wind, embarking on a journey towards the center of the world.
